8th Grade News and Updates

8th Grade letters sharing student progress were sent home on the following dates:

  • Letters were sent home with students and/or via US Mail on 4/10/26, 1/26/26, 11/12/25, and 10/16/25.
  • Progress reports have been sent home every five weeks since September 2025.
    • Fall 20 week report card reflected final grades on December 2025
    • Spring 20 week report card will reflect final grades in June 2026
    • 8th grade eligibility letter sent with students June 1, 2026

Wednesday, June 3, 2026 - 8th Grade Appeals due between 7:45 am and 8:25 am

Wednesday, June 3, 2026 - i-Ready Diagnostic for grades 6-8 in Math - day 1

Thursday, June 4, 2026 - i-Ready Diagnostic for grades 6-8 in Math - day 2

Thursday, June 4, 2026 8th Grade Awards 5:30 pm - in the auditorium (by invitation)

DATE CHANGE! Friday, June 5, 2026 - 8th grade Chromebook & Yondr Pouch collection (including charger) or pay fee for lost or damaged

Wednesday, June 10, 2026 - 8th grade rehearsal for students eligible for culmination - 8:25 am

Thursday, June 11, 2026 - 8th Grade Culmination - 8:30 am

Thursday, June 11, 2026 - LAST DAY OF SCHOOL - 6th & 7th Grade Reverse Minimum Day - gates open at 10:00 am

  • Appeals: Students will be able to request an appeal but MUST be able to show they have made improvements and multiple attempts at improvement. MUST BE TURNED IN BETWEEN 7:45 AM - 8:25 AM ON 6/3/26.
  • Appeals do not guarantee eligibility to be in the ceremony
  • Changes to U's in Work Habits or Cooperation: Congratulations to the 76 students that cleared 108 U's from Fall semester
  • Ms. Vasquez conferenced with 81 parents/family regarding eligibility!
  • Students can clear obligations now: pay for charges due to damaged equipment, lost phone pouches, lost books, etc. (Technology & Yondr- Mr. Benavidez, Library books - Ms. Yablans, Textbooks - Ms. Myra in SSO)
  • The obligations list was sent home with students.
  • Tickets: Each student will be given two (2) tickets and will be able to enter a lottery for 1-2 additional tickets (depending on how many students are able to walk the stage)
  • All guests 2 years and older will require a ticket (children that can walk)
  • Dress code: Semi Formal, dressed to impress
  • Guidelines: Balloons and noise makers should stay in the car, students leave phone with family.

Students CANNOT earn any U's for Work habits or Cooperation in the Spring 2025 semester! (Especially if they earned U's in the fall semester).

  • Advisory earns each student 2.5 credits if they earn a P (Passing) or 0 credits for NP (Not Passing)
  •  
  • Classes for periods 1-6 earn each student 5 credits per class if they pass (A, B, C, D marks) or 0 Credits for a failing grade (F) Students must earn 50 credits out of a minimum out of a possible 65 credits over the 8th grade year.
  •  
  • Students earn Work Habits Grades of Excellent, Satisfactory, or Unsatisfactory (E, S, U) Students need 12 E's or S's total for the year. (that means no more than 2 Us)
  •  
  • Students earn Cooperation Grades of Excellent, Satisfactory, or Unsatisfactory (E, S, U) Students need 12 E's or S's total for the year. (that means no more than 2 Us)
  •  
  • Counselor / Student meeting were held in January to determine your child's progress
  •  
  • Is your child in class AND on time every day? Attendance Matters! No more that 7 absences (96% or better attendance and no less than 96% on time to class). To appeal if your child is over the limit, he or she needs to show immediate and continued improvement.
