Parent Center
The Olive Vista Parent Center…because Education is a Shared Responsibility
Parents must be strong and vital partners with the schools in improving education for their children. When parents are involved in their children’s education at home, they do better in school. When parents are involved at school, the children go farther in school. Parent sustained involvement with their children’s learning and their teachers is the best way to ensure that their needs are being met and will continue to be met.
Our Parent Center Representatives
Daily role models for parent involvement and concerns, our representatives provide translation services during home to school contacts, sponsor a myriad of campus and school-to-home activities, and are always available to welcome parents and assist their communication efforts with the school staff.

A Link to Community Services
Our Parent Center is a link to Healthy Families which provides health, vision and dental insurance to low-income families at a nominal cost. Monthly premiums are $4 to $9 per month with a maximum of $27 per family.
The health and welfare of our families is further supported by campus visits of the Traveling Medical Mobile Unit for breast cancer, cholesterol, diabetes and pregnancy screenings.
As part of the Olive Vista Gear-Up Partnership, classes are held in the Parent Center to train parents in Family Literacy and Mathematics. These classes link parents with what their children are studying in the particular subject at school so the parents can understand the scope of materials students are expected to know; the best teaching practices for learning; and what the school is doing to improve student academic achievement.
With the school’s partnership with the North East Valley Urban Village Initiative, the Parent Center will facilitate parent seminars:
- Creating a Learning Environment in the Home
- Characteristics of Adolescence
- Financial Planning for College
- Becoming a Parent Leader
- How to Prepare for Going to College
- Learning Styles of Students
Our Parent Center and Friends of Olive Vista Booster Club assist with
- Student Recognition Activities
- Supporting teachers and students in the instructional program
- Fund raising activities
- Providing school uniform clothes to families in need
- Supporting participation in curricular field trips for all students
