Dress Code
In order to maintain an appropriate educational atmosphere and ensure safety and security in the school and community, the following dress code will be enforced. Olive Vista Middle School reserves the right to add or delete any item in this list that at a later time becomes gang-related or a safety concern for all students. This dress code will be enforced from the first day of school.
ALL STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR KNOWING AND FOLLOWING THE SCHOOL'S SAFETY
DRESS CODE. IF A STUDENT ARRIVES TO SCHOOL OUT OF DRESS CODE, THE STUDENT MAY BE PROVIDED LOANER CLOTHING FOR THE DAY AND EARN THE CONSEQUENCE OF A SESSION OF CHARACTER BUILDING.
CLOTHING WITH INAPPROPRIATE LOGOS, GRAPHICS, ETC., WILL BE CONFISCATED AND HELD UNTIL THE END OF THE DAY. PARENTS WILL BE NOTIFIED.
Pants/Shorts/Skirts:
- All pants, shorts, and skirts must be solid black, blue or khaki. Blue or Black jeans are allowed.
- Skirts and shorts should be a least as long a the tips of a students fingers when standing with arms at their side.
- Substituting leggings, tights or sweats for pants is not be permitted.
- NOT PART OF UNIFORM POLICY AND SHOULD NOT BE WORN:
- Leggings, sweats and tights worn as pants
- Split, tattered, torn, or cut clothing
- Taped, rubber banded or stapled hem
- Dragging/touching the ground
- Low-rise/sagging style pants
- Pant legs should not be excessively wide. (If a student can put both legs in one side of the pants, they are too wide)
Shirts/Sweaters:
- All students must wear a collared, polo-style shirt. Students may also wear Olive Vista shirts (OVMS t-shirts, Drill Team t-shirts, Leadership shirts, etc.).
- Acceptable:
- Color: Royal Blue, Burgundy, Black or White
- Style: Polo-style shirt with a collar and sleeves.
- Logo: can be small and should not cover the entire shirt, should not be of an inappropriate nature
- Undershirts: should only be worn UNDER collared shirts and no logos should be visible.
- Unacceptable
- Writing/drawings/pictures on shirt
- Tight-fitting
- Sheer/see through tops
- Sleeveless, tank tops, strapless, or spaghetti straps
- Pajamas
Shoes/Socks:
- Acceptable: Shoes should be properly sized, full back, flat soles, and closed-toe
- NOT PART OF UNIFORM POLICY:
- Flip flops
- Sandals and slippers
- Crocs
Outerwear/Jackets/Sweaters:
- Acceptable:
- Any color sweatshirt or jacket with school appropriate logo and/or language
- Unacceptable
- Professional or university team logos (except on College Day Thursdays)
- Community team logos
Accessories:
- Belts: Not to extend more than 2 inches longer than waistline, no initials or insignias on buckles, belt woven through all loops
- Headgear:
- Baseball caps with Olive Vista Middle School logo only (outside only)
- Hoods worn up only in cold weather (outside only)
- Beanies--solid color--no logo--no red and blue only in cold weather (outside only)
- No scarves, bandanas, or bandana-style headbands
- Students are to remove hats, hoodies, beanies when going indoors.
Miscellaneous:
- No sunglasses unless prescribed by doctor
- No undergarments showing
- No visible wallet chains/chain-like accessories
- No leather bracelets or belts with metal designs, spikes, or studs
- No glitter/stickers; writing on any body part
- No spiked or dangerous jewelry (handcuffs, choker-chains, over-sized necklaces, or leather-spiked/studded accessories)
