8th Grade Culmination Requirements / Activities
The LAUSD Middle School Culmination Activity and Certificate of Completion policy defines the criteria for earning a Middle School Certificate of Completion and participating in the Culmination Ceremony. To participate in the culmination ceremony, eighth grade students must meet all LAUSD requirements to earn a Certificate of Completion. Students will be evaluated based on the marks and credits earned in the eighth grade. Students will earn five credits for passing each semester course with a ‘D’ or better. Grades from all subject areas will be used to determine credits earned in eighth grade.
Ø Students must earn 50 credits during eighth grade to be eligible for the Certificate of Completion.
Additionally, Olive Vista Middle School & STEAM Magnet requires all students to meet the following criteria to participate in the culmination ceremony.
Ø Earn a minimum of 12 Es or Ss in Work Habits on the final report card. Only final (20 week) report cards count.
Ø Earn a minimum of 12 Es or Ss in Cooperation on the final report card. Only final (20 week) report cards count.
Ø Maintain 96% on-time attendance throughout the eighth-grade year.
Ø Complete all assigned character building at lunch and/or Saturdays.
Ø Pay all financial obligations including but not limited to damaged books or computers.
Ø Maintain overall Satisfactory Citizenship throughout the 8th grade year.
Parents of students not meeting the academic, behavior and/or attendance requirements will be notified in a timely manner of ineligibility to participate in the culmination ceremony. Parents wishing to appeal must contact Ms. Ghoneim, of the appeal committee.
Students may also be required to participate in one or more of the following intervention and support programs for assistance with meeting the expectations above.
